Behind on Blogging Because

Grad school is so different from undergrad. When I was an undergrad I was floaty floaty floaty. As a grad student, I am trying to become more and more focused, yet going back to school has forced me to broaden and re-embrace the literary mainstream short story. Novels are my natural storytelling medium, but writing the short story gives me freedom to experiment with form, voices, and ways of telling story on the page.

Teaching is so different from being a student. Now that I'm teaching my own college level writing class, I have a new-found appreciation for all the work teachers do behind the scenes and even during class. Teaching requires a ton of energy. Teaching requires that I take better care of myself so I have energy.

when you speak in class
every word has an impact--
open minds...or not.

Good luck with your teaching; I think you'd make a great writing teacher!
