Because Labor Day's timing is different this year, my school will move forward without a mid-term break, which will be challenging but make the semester shorter. My program is only two years, and so last year I felt like a freshman, and this year I feel like a senior ready to graduate. Because I participated in Clarion, I do feel like I haven't had a real summer vacation. Plus, I find that I do miss last year's second years.
While slightly overwhelemed with the newness of starting school, prepping to teach my own class, reconnecting with my fellow second years and getting to know the first years, I am looking forward to thinking about writing, talking about writing, reading about writing, just in a more abstract manner than conversations about ninjas or zombies or tentacles. Really, what is more real?

"First years" and "Second years" made me think of Harry Potter.
Maybe you'll start a trend for ninjas and tentacles. They'll be glad they joined in once they're on the bandwagon!
